Autocar has named Bono Ge, Country Manager for BYD UK, the recipient of its Outstanding UK Leader award at its prestigious Autocar 2026 Awards ceremony.
He collected the honour at this week’s Autocar Awards at the Honourable Artillery Company, London, after the leading media outlet’s judges praised his instrumental role in “changing the UK’s car landscape for good” and his exceptional role in driving BYD’s success in the UK.
From its starting point selling cars in the UK only since 2023, BYD has become the leading New Energy Vehicle (plug-in hybrid and fully electric) brand in the country, selling 51,422 units in 2025. From January to May 2026, BYD recorded 35,663 registrations, and in April, it led the way in pure electric vehicle sales in the country for the first time.
In addition to significant growth in car sales, Bono Ge has also been instrumental in accelerating the expansion of its retailer network in the UK, currently standing at 143 sites, with more due to open throughout the remainder of the year.
On accepting the award from Mark Tisshaw, Autocar Editor, Bono said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to Autocar for presenting me with this award. However, this award represents far more than just one individual at BYD. From our first electric bus to our 100,000th car, we have always brought our newest and best technology to the UK. I want to offer my heartfelt thanks to the entire BYD team and all of our partners who have made this success possible.”
Mark Tisshaw added: “The UK has become BYD’s largest market outside China, and a key reason for that success has been its UK general manager Bono Ge. Having established the firm’s UK operation in 2011, Ge has laid the groundwork for its recent rapid growth, setting it up for long-term success in one of the world’s most competitive car markets.”
