Frontline workers are taking to Reddit to reveal how they’re keeping the cost of their household bills low, and to applaud the hidden savings available.
According to several users, those eligible for a Blue Light Card, including those serving and retired from front line roles, could be missing out on substantial savings without even realising it.
Commenting on a cost saving Reddit thread, one user “@Wonderful-Acadia-296” admitted they had been “overpaying for my phone for years” after discovering they hadn’t applied her Blue Light Card discount to their mobile plan.
For example, with 20% off SIM-only plans, Vodafone’s Blue Light Card offer could have saved the member up to £268.80 over two years – based on the Unlimited Premier + Entertainment plan, priced at £56 per month over a 24-month term*.
The post prompted others to share the lesser-known deals they’d been missing out on, with many surprised by the range of everyday savings available through the scheme.
One user said they regularly take advantage of the exclusive 20% off food, all day, every day thanks to the Wagamama’s promotion, which allows them to save on their family’s favourite meal out.
Another Blue Light Card member, @JamesTiberious called out the 12 months of free Deliveroo Plus, which is normally £3.49 a month.
One surprised shopper said: “I can’t believe I’m only just finding about all [these deals]”.
Others, including user @Biology123, pointed to the Shopping Cards offered by Blue Light Card – which allow members to purchase high street retailer gift cards at a discount, meaning that for every pound you get more to spend in store.
Current supermarket offers for Shopping Cards include 6% off at Marks & Spencer, 4% off at Sainsbury’s and Tesco, and 3.5% off at Morrisons and Asda.
Available for just £4.99, Blue Light Card, the UK’s dedicated rewards service for those working in and retired from the emergency services, NHS, social care sector, teaching community and the armed forces, provides member access to a range of benefits including exclusive tickets and experiences, member days and events.
