Volunteer-powered station marks six years of broadcasting
Box Office Radio is celebrating six years on air this October – and the team behind the station is raising a glass to six years of broadcasting a huge variety of music from the stage and screen.
The station officially celebrates its sixth birthday on Thursday, 1 October 2026, having first taken to the airwaves in 2020. Since then, the station has built a dedicated audience and a passionate team of presenters, all united by a love of musical theatre, movies and radio. Box Office Radio’s partnership with theatre giants Trafalgar Entertainment, which began in 2025, has also helped to take the station to new heights.
The one thing that makes the achievement particularly special: Box Office Radio is run and staffed entirely by volunteers. From presenting and producing programmes to the work that happens behind the scenes, the station relies on people giving their time, enthusiasm and expertise to keep the broadcasts going.
Managing Director Paul Scott said the sixth birthday was a moment to celebrate everyone who has played a part in the station’s journey.
“Six years on air is an incredible milestone, and I couldn’t be prouder of what the Box Office Radio team has achieved.
“We’re a station powered by volunteers who give their time because they believe in what we do and genuinely love broadcasting. That passion comes across in everything we produce.
“Our sixth birthday isn’t just a celebration of Box Office Radio – it’s a celebration of every presenter, volunteer, contributor and listener who has been part of our story.
“Six years ago we started this journey with a passion for musical theatre, movies and a desire to create a professional sounding station dedicated to the music of stage and screen. Six years later, that passion is stronger than ever and our worldwide audience continues to grow. Here’s to the next chapter!”
Six years – and counting
Box Office Radio’s sixth birthday provides an opportunity to look back at how far the station has come, while looking firmly towards the future. For a volunteer-run broadcaster, reaching six years on air represents thousands of hours of commitment behind the microphone and behind the scenes.
The station says its success is down to the people who continue to give their time and creativity to make each broadcast happen – as well as the huge number of listeners, all over the world, who tune in and support the station.
