Norfolk’s youth parliamentarians have been welcomed to their new roles at a special inauguration event at County Hall.
Norfolk County Council runs the county’s elections for youth parliament and supports the young people during their term of office.
Elections take place every two years and were held earlier this year. However due to local elections the new Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) have only just been able to meet with Norfolk’s new county councillors.
The event was held in the Council Chamber with Deputy Chairman Cllr Mike Westman and Cabinet Member for Children, Families and SEND Cllr Wendy Atkinson in attendance to speak and hand out certificates. The young people each gave an inauguration speech.
Cllr Atkinson said: “The passion, confidence and calibre of the young people in the room was genuinely inspiring. These are our future leaders and changemakers and I’m excited to see what they achieve in their two-year term.
“I’m proud that Norfolk County Council supports these elections – it is vital that young people have a role in our democracy and I am very much looking forward to working with our new members of youth parliament.”

Jenson Piekielinak – Great Yarmouth and South Norfolk
Gracie Nicholson – North Norfolk and Broadland
Tristan Chen-Bouskill – West and Breckland
The Deputy Members of Youth Parliament are:
Yashfin Rahman – Norwich
Maxim Morgan – West and Breckland
Roman Carey – Great Yarmouth and South Norfolk
Alfred Barker – North Norfolk and Broadland
Gracie Nicholson MYP for North Norfolk and Broadland said “When I first received the email that I had won the election, I could not believe it. To have over 13,500 Young people vote across Norfolk and gratefully acknowledge that even a portion of them voted for me, was honestly incredible.”
