The people of Norfolk don’t want a £96 million shake-up of council services – that’s the message to the Government, from the county council’s deputy leader.
County council deputy leader Councillor Robin Hunter-Clarke has written to newly appointed Secretary of State for communities, housing and local government, Angela Rayner, to ask for a halt to local government reorganisation (LGR).
Cllr Hunter-Clarke says in his letter: “The people of Norfolk did not ask for this reorganisation. It’s not a priority raised on the doorsteps, not is it something local residents are calling for.
“What they want is better roads, reliable social care, good schools, safer communities and value for every pound of Council Tax they pay.
“Instead, Government is asking Norfolk Council Taxpayers to fund an estimated £96 million restructuring programme… that simply cannot be justified.”
Cllr Hunter-Clarke said his administration had applied for a judicial review of the Norfolk local government reorganisation decision.
He has also requested a meeting with the Secretary of State to discuss the issue.
