Tickets are now on sale for Ipswich’s first TEDx event on Thursday 1 October, marking the University of Suffolk’s 10th anniversary.
Under TEDx rules, the event is limited to a live audience of 100 people who will hear talks presenting new ideas across a wide range of subjects in the 15-minute presentations.
The speaker line-up, combining university researchers and local community creatives, is as follows:
- Dr Reilly Willis: Hashtag Activism and Women’s Rights: Are social media campaigns really making laws better for women and girls?
- Mars El Brogy: How can a trail of painted hares teach us how to build a better Suffolk?
- David James: Nothing ever happens here
- Dr Ruth Flaherty: What AI can teach us about working with uncertainty
- Dr Georgina Marsh: The end of one-size-fits-all medicine: How 3D printing will change pharmacy
- Lily Hammond: Why Colour Matters: Re-imagining the way we see our world
- Dr Hannah Steventon: When the Suffolk landscape calls, people listen: citizen science for our environment
University of Suffolk Vice-Chancellor Professor Jenny Higham said: “Hosting Ipswich’s first TEDx event is a significant milestone for the university. Millions of people have seen or listened to TEDx talks and their goal of ‘ideas worth spreading’ is at the heart of university research and knowledge exchange.
“The event will showcase original creative thinking with the potential for positive change in our county, focusing our second decade as a university on the impact we can have in collaboration with our regional communities.”
Suffolk, previously known as University Campus Suffolk, became an independent university in August 2016, being granted the power to award its own degrees.
Tickets for the TEDx cost £15 (£5 for University of Suffolk students) and the event will start at 5.30pm. The TEDx talks will be recorded and made available on the global TEDx platform.
