Championship Midweek Preview: Leaders Swansea Face Millwall Test As High-Flyers Stoke And Middlesbrough Prepare To Meet

It’s a busy midweek in the Championship with all 24 teams in action across Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Leaders Swansea City travel to Millwall as they bid to continue their fine start to the campaign. The Swans came from behind against Norwich last weekend to maintain their impressive form, and they sit two points clear at the summit ahead of the midweek matches.

The game of the night, though, is undoubtedly in the Potteries as fourth-placed Stoke City welcome second-placed Middlesbrough. Mark Robins’ side are one of the form teams in the second tier with 16 points garnered from their last six matches – a far cry from when they were bottom at the start of September. They’ll have to be wary of Will Lankshear, though. The Boro hitman is the joint-top scorer in the Championship and has nine in 12 in all competitions this term.

Elsewhere on Tuesday night, Burnley will look to build on their first win of the season when they host Charlton at Turf Moor. The Clarets ran riot with a 4-0 victory at Watford at the weekend and host an Addicks side that is winless in six.

Graham Alexander will be searching for his first win as Preston boss, as he takes his troops seventh-placed Birmingham City.

Blackburn Rovers are in resurgent form under Tony Mowbray, having strung together some good results. Tuesday sees them make the long trek down to Bristol City, who lie in 10th place. Two struggling sides, Cardiff and Watford, meet in South Wales whilst Wrexham welcome West Bromwich and Wolves host Bolton at Molineux.

On Wednesday night there’s a fascinating contest in store as Lincoln City welcome West Ham United to Sincil Bank for a league fixture for the first time in almost 70 years. You have to go way back to December 1957 for the last time these two shared a division, as the Hammers ran out 6-1 winners in the old Division Two.

Also on Wednesday, Southampton will be aiming to build on their derby day win over Portsmouth at the weekend as they travel to Norwich, who have lost three on the spin.

Pompey attempt to lick their wounds with a visit from Sheffield United whilst second-bottom Derby County – without a win in five – travel to draw specialist QPR.
